Donbas Black Gold
Applying for the Fulbright Grant as a visual storyteller, I had a goal to boost my skills to tell impactful stories about Donbas, my homeland. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse, NY, where I went through classes in photography, video, and VR, turned out to be the perfect place for this.   Came back to Ukraine, I was happy to dive into work on different projects. One of them is the Donbas Black Gold, a multimedia educational piece on the work of the regular Donbas coal mine in the city of Ugledar near the frontline, made in collaboration with New Cave Media VR studio and Radio Free Europe Ukraine. Using mediums of photography, VR, and text, the story tells about the daily work of coal miners hundreds of meters below the ground level. I believe that sharing such stories helps different parts of our Ukrainian society to better understand and value the hard work of each others. It is going to be published in spring 2019.
