English with meagan
Hi! I’m Meagan, the new English Language Resident at America House. I am originally from Detroit, Michigan but have been lucky enough to have lived all over the world!
My BA is in International Studies and German from Northern Michigan University and MA in International Studies and Education from Concordia University in Irvine, California. My love for different cultures began in my own family. I am an Italian dual citizen and have Swedish, Polish, Russian, Welsh and Indigenous American heritage. I was inspired to study the German language in Vienna as an exchange student for a semester as a junior at university. Once I graduated, I spent one year teaching middle and high school students in Honduras and learning Spanish. My graduate degree program was also an exchange program for two years in Shanghai, China, teaching middle and high school students. In 2015, I had the opportunity to move to Sydney, Australia where I started off as a high school preparation teacher for international students at an intensive English language school and stayed five years in total, ending as the Director of Studies.
For the last year, I have been working with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs for the US Department of State as a Virtual English Language Fellow. This position has allowed me to train pre-service and in-service English language professionals from the Philippines, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, and Algeria from the comfort of my home in Palermo, Italy. The parts of English language training, creation, and facilitation that interest me the most are action research, monitoring and evaluation, community service project based learning, and engaging and motivating learners by building mindfulness. Thank you for welcoming me to the team!
